Lightjet Print

Lightjet large photo prints. Photo Craft prints onto Fuji Crystal Archive paper (luster, matte, and glossy) as well as FujiFlex, FujiClear and FujiTrans materials. The Fuji Crystal Archive materials have the highest rating in independent lab tests for longevity of any chromogenic photographic material. (chromogenic materials use silver halide crystals to create the image and then photographic dyes incorporated in the material to produce the colors.) Prints made on Fuji Crystal Archive papers and printed with the LightJet are accepted as fine art and used by the world’s best known photographers. The LightJet printer was originally developed by Cymbolic Sciences in the early 1990’s to write to 8×10 inch photographic film. The resulting films were said to be “Digital Originals” and were as sharp as and indistinguishable from original slides and negatives. In time the LightJet printer was enlarged to expose true silver-based photographic paper using helium, argon and neon lasers. Exposed paper is then processed in traditional photographic chemistry. With an apparent resolution in excess of 4000 dpi, LightJet prints are arguably the sharpest, highest fidelity prints obtainable anywhere, exhibiting the continuous tone look and feel of traditional photographs but without the limitations of traditional optical printing. Rolls of light sensitive photographic paper, 50 inches wide by 162 feet long, are loaded into the LightJet in the dark. The photographic paper is held rock solid by an internal drum while the RGB lasers write to the paper in 36 bit color (12 bits per channel), resulting in unbelievably smooth color gradations and subtly. The LightJet can create prints of any size up to 50″ x 120″ without tiling and with tiling, create images any size. Because the LightJet images in 12 bit per channel RGB color (inkjet printers by comparison print in 8 bit per channel CMYK), photographers can get more out of profiles such as Adobe(98)RGB, ProPhoto RGB, and Ekta Space. The LightJet prints the way we see the world, in RGB not CMYK. The LightJet also prints the way your film or digital camera captures images, which is why it is still the printer of choice by many of the world’s best photographers. Photo Craft Imaging offers three levels of digital printing file prep depending on your desired level of OUR involvement. In each case the print price reflects the work we put in to make your print look great. All three levels include the same high level of Photographic (LightJet) or Inkjet printing. If working from film, scanning is a separate charge.
